Here we are in
Washington, VA, Rappa- hannock County. We love it here. Do come and visit.
This is where we live, have our office, and our Chutney Test Kitchen.
Clare grew up in East Africa and Nevill grew up in England. They met in the Caribbean where they made mango and pineapple chutneys as well as two sons, Oliver and Christopher.
When we all moved to Virginia we discovered that the American South had a rich tradition of chutney making. An interesting thing about chutney is how its ingredients and applications reflect the local region. For instance, in India they use tamarind chutneys with curry, the English love Ploughman’s lunch, Caribbean cuisine serves mango chutney on fish, New England loves cranberries and maybe Lap Landers enjoy cloudberry chutney on reindeer! However, here in Virginia, the traditional chutneys are peach, apple, and green tomatoes often served with ham, cold chicken and roast pork.
Clare came up with the idea of making southern style chutneys and has been resting on her laurels ever since. Oliver does deliveries and abstract concept work, while Christopher is a chutney taster/doctor in Brooklyn, and Nevill uses his almost annoying eye for detail as head of quality control.
So swing by if you're in the area and please send us any clever recipes involving chutney.
