FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept. 24, Washington, VA: The Virginia Chutney Company is pleased to announce the first annual Virginia Chutney Festival, to be held October 24th at The Link community center in Sperryville, Virginia, from 11 am to 4 pm. Admission will be free.
The Festival will be an outdoor barbecue picnic, featuring locally raised and produced menu items paired with the Virginia Chutney Company’s all-natural, Southern-style chutneys. Barbecue sandwiches prepared on site by Fat Possum BBQ will be made using humanely raised pork from Baker Farms in Shenandoah County, and processed by Blue Ridge Meats, a Certified Humane processing facility. We’re also pleased to be able to offer peanut-butter from Virginia Diner and cheese from Marshall Farms, served on bread from Red Truck Bakery for our chutney sandwich options. Sandwiches will be served with Route 11 potato chips and an apple from The Farm at Sunnyside, and visitors can wash down their lunch with apple cider from Roy’s Orchard in Sperryville. The cost of lunch will start at $8.
Visitors will be able to enjoy bluegrass music by the Gold Top County Ramblers, a band based in Sperryville. To entertain youngsters, there will be an interactive chutney cooking demonstration that children can take part in. The Festival is in part a celebration of the company’s seasonal Green Tomato Chutney, which is made once a year in the fall in limited batches, and will be available for sale and sampling during the Festival.
"It's going to be a lot of fun for families and foodies," says Clare Turner, who started the company four years ago with her husband Nevill and son Oliver. "Chutney is such a terrific way to add flavor to food- it makes a simple meal special, with absolutely no effort other than opening the jar."
"We're excited to be able to showcase other local food products, too. It's a real community event," she added. Also taking place at The Link on October 24th is the "Strutt Your Mutt" dog walk event, which will benefit the Rappahannock Animal Welfare League.
The Virginia Chutney Co. is a Washington, VA-based maker of all-natural Southern style chutneys available in six flavors: Spicy Plum, Sweet Peach, Hot Peach, Cranberry, Rhubarb and Major Grey's Mango. This family-owned business has been previously featured in the New York Times, Northern Virginia Magazine, Edible Chesapeake, and Organic Spa Magazine. Their chutney is sold at many fine retailers including Whole Foods, Wegmans, Feast in Charlottesville and Cowgirl Creamery in Washington DC.
